About the Newark Think Tank on Poverty
Newark Think Tank on Poverty is a diverse group of people who are committed to systemic change at the local, state, and national level. Changing the system means both changing the laws, but also changing who makes them.
With our partner grassroots organizations, we work to challenge and change the economic, social, and political systems that continue to oppress working and poor by placing profits above people, locking people into lives of want, instability and insecurity.
When it comes to deciding public policy and governance, we believe that everyone—including working and poor people—should have a seat at the table and an equal voice in those decisions.
In our six-year history, we have worked to meet the immediate survival needs of some of the most vulnerable people in our community, AND we have worked on community-identified campaigns that address issues of homelessness, drug and alcohol addiction, transportation, affordable housing, food scarcity, and community re entry from incarceration and mental health.

We Stand For:
• Economic and social justice
• Inclusion / Nondiscrimination
• Antiracism
• Empowering and Developing New Grassroots Leaders
We Are:
• Nonpartisan
• Diverse
• Working Collectively for Change • Committed to challenging the Existing Power Structures
